She travelled over 2,400 km to get admission to a Delhi University college, only to find that 92 per cent was not enough to make the cut.
1. Have you been to Delhi before? How different is it from your home state?
This is my first time in Delhi. The flight from Itanagar to the Capital took five hours and I got here a few days before the first Delhi University cut-off list was released. It has been four days now. My father, an engineer with the state government in Arunachal Pradesh, and I have been staying at the Arunachal house in Chanakyapuri.
It’s unbearably hot in Delhi.
2. What made you apply to Delhi University and what course do you want to pursue?
My sister studies in the History department of Miranda House college and I have heard a lot about the
university from her. I have applied for Geography (Honours) in the same college. In fact I do not have a back-up option at all. That is the only course I have applied to.
3. Why do you want to take up geography?
I want to study geography because I have heard it is a high-scoring subject. After completing the course, I want to join the civil service. So far, not a single person from my district has cracked the exam, I want to be the first to do it.
4. The first cut-off list is out. Have you made it to Miranda House?
The geography cut-off for Miranda House college was 93 but I have an aggregate percentage of 92 in the CBSE board exam. I was the topper of my class, so it’s very disappointing for me to not get through in the first list.
5. So what do you plan to do now?
Well, I have applied to just one college, so I will have to wait for the second cut-off list now. It is due in the next two days and hopefully I will make it.
